Mookie brings the story

First of all, I’ll make sure everyone knows that I’m a bigtime fan of Dominic Deegan, Mookie’s a buddy, and it’s very late at night. So if any fanboyish leaks out into this snark, those may be the causes. I’ll aim for objectivity, though. It’s my duty as a critic.
*ahem*
Oh my god I can’t believe it this is gonna be so fucking cool it’s the showdown between Dominic and Celesto (my favorite villain lolz) and it’s gonna be fucking awesome woooooooooo!
I mean…
This strip here is indicative of Mookie’s mastery in the art of storytelling. In fact, this whole story arch we’ve been reading so far is been a great accomplishment on his part, because it takes a radical deviation from the normal goings on of the story and strip, but at the same time fitting in perfectly with the setting and tone of his story. It works well, because he’s bringing back older characters into this new tale with a truly diagetic purpose. He’s showing us there was more to each and every character than we had ever gleaned.
This is his Sunday color strip. Look at it. The man knows his markers, which is the first thing to say of the visuals. That thing in the background? If you don’t know what that is, it’s called the Storm of Souls. It’s raw chaos. You can look at that thing and see pure destruction and misery. It looks like emotion. And here we have Dominic, our hero, standing off against Celesto. Who, at this point in Dominic’s journey, is the only real threat in a single human being.
In the planes of existence where existence itself is quite questionable, the ones who reign supreme are the strong of mind. Dominic has shown us in the past, that he is a brilliant man (as most Seers are apt to be, because with foresight comes wisdom). Unrivaled it seems. Celesto fits that role, because he is also a seer of untested potential. We don’t know who is more powerful between Celesto Morgan and Dominic Deegan, but it would seem we’re about to find out.
In this conflict, Celesto has been selected as the Champion of Chaos. That means he is going to lead the attack on the material world on behalf of the forces of Chaos, using the Storm of Souls. Dominic had led himself to believe that he is the Champion of Law, but he soon understood that he has become the Champion of Balance. It is now Dominic’s role to keep Celesto and the Storm of Souls at bay, with the help of Acibek.
Mookie let everyone know that he’d be unable to give us a strip for Monday, as he’d be out of town. So for his Sunday color strip, he gives us this cliffhanger. And why? Because he absolutely knows that it drives his readers insane. Although I rarely participate, I’m a member of the Deegan Fan Community on LJ (I told you I was a fan, didn’t I?). I know the guys are freaking out right now because we can’t wait to see what happens next.
And that’s all because Mookie knows how to fucking bring the story. He grips you with every strip he draws. We eat it up. Can’t get enough. We’re the child on grampa’s lap squealing with “What happens next?!” So the man gives us a cliffhanger. Not only to drive us totally nuts, but because that’s what belongs here in the story. A standoff between the forces of good and bad. The calm before the Storm (of Souls… yuk-yuk-yuk!). Because this is going to be one amazing fight, the fight between two geniuses where the mind reigns supreme.
I am fucking stoked.
